LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT St. Vincent’s Mental Health (SVMH) provides high quality, recovery-oriented services across an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. The service utilises the Strengths Model of recovery and this model is embedded across all parts of the mental health service. St Vincent’s is also committed to the development of a strong peer support workforce. The adult mental health service components are: The Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), the 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent’s Hospital site, the North Fitzroy PARC and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn (Hawthorn CMHS) and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS). Community mental health services comprise the Triage and Crisis assessment and Treatment (CAT) service, Continuing Care (CCT), Mobile Support and Treatment (MST), Homeless Outreach (CHOPS) services and Group Program and Brief Interventions Team (GPBIT). The Primary Intervention and Care Team (PICT) include Primary Mental Health, Extended Triage and HOPE (Suicide Prevention). A Consultation & Liaison Service is provided to the health service. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service and the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS) are regional services. State-wide services are the Victorian Dual Disability Service and the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health. The Acute Inpatient Service includes 5 beds designated as the Koori State-wide Inpatient Service and linked to the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service. St Vincent’s Mental Health is committed the recruitment and retention of high quality staff. SVMH has a strong education and research focus in addition to affiliations with a number of universities and educational institutions. All SVMH clinical staff is expected to be familiar, and practice in a manner consistent with the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce. POSITION PURPOSE Group Program and Brief Interventions offers a range of group and individual therapies and supports as an adjunct to consumers’ support with case management across Hawthorn and Clarendon mental health sites. Under the direction of the Manager Community Mental Health and the Group program and Brief Interventions Team Leader, the clinical psychologist will develop and deliver evidence based psychological assessments and interventions to consumers with complex needs through individual brief intervention sessions. The Clinical psychologist will also assist with developing and delivering group programs. The Clinical Psychologist will also provide secondary consultation to case managers for consumers with complex presentations and, in particular, provide support with the development of service wide management plans. They will also be responsible for providing clinical leadership to more junior staff, students and peers and for the supervision of Grade 2 Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Psychology Registrars and provisional psychologists on postgraduate placements. POSITION DUTIES Provide best practice/evidence based interventions for consumers presenting with high and low prevalence disorders within the Strengths Model of recovery Provide high quality comprehensive assessments including clinical diagnosis, psychological and personality assessments Provide secondary consultation to case managers for consumers with complex needs and assist them with the development of service wide management plans as required. Provide supervision to Grade 2 clinical psychologists, clinical psychology registrars and provisional psychologists on postgraduate placements. Display clinical expertise and leadership in the utilisation of discipline-specific skills as appropriate and provide clinical leadership to more junior staff, students and peers. Assist in the provision of primary, secondary and tertiary consultation services, community development and education, liaison and linkage to other agencies that also provide support to people with mental illnesses as required. Display a high standard of clinical practice and professional conduct at all times. Work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team. Contribute to discipline specific professional development and quality projects, including research and evaluation activities where appropriate. Maintenance of all documentation in line with SVMH policies, including clinical documentation, outcome measures and CMI reporting. SELECTION CRITERIA ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION, LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Completion of an APAC approved degree in Clinical Psychology at a Master’s or Doctorate level Registration as a psychologist under the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Practice endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist under AHPRA Recognised psychology supervisor under AHPRA. Current Victorian driver’s license. OTHER ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS The successful applicant must have a minimum of at least 5 years post qualification clinical experience including some experience in mental health services. Experience and relevant training in the provision of assessment, interventions and evaluation of best practice psychological interventions (CBT, ACT, group work etc.) for consumers with a severe mental illness. Knowledge of and commitment to providing a comprehensive range of psychological assessments including diagnostic, cognitive and personality assessments for people with serious mental illness and complex needs. Demonstrated ability to develop service wide management plans for consumers with complex needs. A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2014 (including amendments) and other relevant legislation. Commitment to work collaboratively and effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team with multiple key stakeholders both internal and external of the St Vincent’s Health organization (including consumers, carers, family members and community agencies). Demonstrated ability to working collaboratively with clients and carers to promote self determination and enable progress towards reaching personal goals. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including problem solving ability and conflict resolution skills, as well as sound oral and writing skills.
